The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) hosted a panel discussion yesterday, Thursday 28th September 2017 under the theme “Sustainable Tourism – A Tool for Development”. The event coincided with World Tourism Day which was celebrated on Wednesday 27th of September 2017.
The panel consisted of speakers from different sectors including the General Manager of Peninsula Farms, Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, the Founder of Annada, Ms. Nada Al Alawi, the Head of Marketing at Bin Faqeeh Real Estate Development Co., Mr. Ahmed Khalfan, and the CEO of City Limo, Mr. Nayef Al Alawi.
The discussion mainly focused on the impact of various sectors and industries on the tourism industry in Bahrain, including fashion, real-estate, transportation, amongst others, without it being limited to hospitality and leisure.
This comes in-line with the appointment of BTEA as a member of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) for the period 2018-2021. This appointment is the result of BTEA’s efforts in developing the local tourism sector and furthering the Kingdom’s ability to represent the Middle East region as a paradigm of tourism developments.
“The organization of this panel discussion comes in-line with the theme chosen by the World Tourism Organization for the World Tourism Day 2017 which celebrates the sustainable contribution towards the development of the tourism industry,” said the Chief Executive Officer of BTEA H.E Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa.
“Sustainable tourism also marks the significant influence on the economy, the society and the environment as it is also is a positive tool to eradicate poverty, and protect the environment, as well as improve the quality of live especially in developing countries,” he added.
